As we head into the upcoming election, I have one prayer for the country, figure out how to evolve and do it! It will be hard, but we all want change. We thought President Obamba would give it to us, but it seems like business as usual. It really doesn't matter what your political philosophy is-Democrat, Republican, Independent, Conservative, Liberal, Progressive, Far Right, Far Left, Libertarian- the affairs of Washington have not changed. One party is in power and one party is trying to get back into power. Deals are being made and many are being paid off. It has reached a hyper frenzy. Does it really matter who?
The evolution I speak of is to change how we politically run our country. It was set up in a very different time where communication and travel were vastly different. I am not saying I disapprove at the structure the founding fathers set up, I just think the time to compensate for the lack of speed in communication they had back then is over.
We need a government that works for us. Cliche, I know, but how about simple mandates that require the government find a way to protect us that puts the responsibility and inconvenience on them not on the citizens. That we go about our daily life with the least amount of interference. What about the big bad guys, the big business, the corporations? Why don't we have simple laws to cover them also with some good experts to investigate and enforce them. Mandates that follow the simple rules-though shalt not steal, kill, etc. Keep the philosophy that I can swing my fist as far as I want but it ends at the other guy's nose. If that saying bothers you there is an equally icky one about a cat, but it demonstrates what I mean.
We all 'know' the problems of career politicians. The Texans feel that every day the congress is in session freedom is in jeopardy. (I can't find the reference for that, if someone knows, I would appreciate to learn of it). I believe there is merit to this idea. People want power. Could we make the government an extension of the citizen's power?
The founding fathers wanted a republic because of the problem of the ignorance of the common man. That is a concern, but today, unlike any time in history, we 'know' more (at least in the US and possibly Europe) than any civilization has before. Not for lack of the 'elite' trying to retard that progress, but with the internet it is really exploding. If you want to know there is a way. There is a lot of inaccurate info also, which leads to problems, too. So, life is not perfect. Zero tolerance is for fools, it never will be perfect.
Are we ready for this? I don't know, but I hope we go in that direction rather down the path of totalitarianism. It feels that those are the choices. I don't want other people's things, just let me live my life and make my choices. I have no problem feeding the hungry and giving basic necessities to keep someone alive, but beyond that we all must take control of our own live. Those that want to take control of other lives are a problem for me and I truly believe the impulse is evil. Some concern of others is natural, we are a social animal, but to put it into law, give me the swinging cat anytime.
